. . . and it’s not what you think.

Years ago I went through a very painful separation and ultimately a divorce. I lost touch with my inner self and was inexplicably lost and had a difficult time finding my way.

It was during that period, I attended a photography seminar in Phoenix, AZ where a noted photographer read a poem by Marianne Williamson called,

Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

This single poem transformed my life forever.

The words, “Your playing small does not serve the world, there is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure about you” brought me to my knees. It was then that I realized all my life I was playing small so as not to make other people feel insecure around me. I, like you, am meant to shine and when I allow myself to shine, I automatically allow you to shine.

Through my journey after my divorce, I made the decision that not only was I going to shine my own light, I was going to give other people permission to do the same. This journey brought me to empowering women through boudoir photography, not boudoir in the strictest sense but more about empowering women because by design all women are beautiful. Most women don’t see it. Most of us focus on what we don’t like about ourselves to the point that we lack self confidence and cannot let our own light shine. Somewhere down the line we have lost touch with who we really are and start to focus on the negative bits, not the whole person. We listen to the negative thoughts of external voices or our own inner critic and believe what we hear.

How do I know this? Because I’ve experienced this all my life and recognize it in others when I conduct consultations or read the long forms of boudoir applicants. Most women do not feel they are beautiful.

I am here to tell you that you are beautiful!

Leave the negative thoughts at the door once you come to my studio. Because you are meant to shine.  Let your light shine and, when you do, it is then that you will see what I see — a beautiful woman who took that step towards being brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous!!!

You are beautiful just the way you are!!!

You just need to take that first step to discover your light !
