The Gift of Boudoir Photography | Annapolis Boudoir Photography

One of the questions I’m asked from time to time is,

“Do women really cry when they see their photographs?”

The answer is YES!

But probably not for the reason you think.

Recently, a woman in her early 60s came to me for a boudoir session. Like so many women, she had self doubts that weighed her down but she trusted the process anyway.

Throughout her session she relaxed a little more with each photograph, but I still wasn’t sure what she would think when it came time for her reveal.

After lunch she returned, and I could tell she was even more nervous than she had been that morning.

Then the slideshow began.

She quietly watched image after image appear on the screen.

When it was over, she looked at me with tears in her eyes and said,

“You didn’t tell me I was going to cry when I saw these images. I honestly thought there wasn’t one good photograph of me.”

That moment never gets old.

She wasn’t crying because I had made her look like someone else.

She was crying because, for the first time in a very long time, she saw herself through kinder eyes.

She saw a woman who was beautiful, feminine, confident, and worthy—not despite her age or her body, but exactly as she was.

She fell in love with every single image.

In fact, choosing photographs became the hard part. She selected thirty images for her album because she simply couldn’t imagine leaving any of them behind.

Before she left, she said something I hear more often than you might expect:

“I wish I had done this years ago.”

I think about those words often.

So many women spend decades waiting. Waiting to lose the weight. Waiting until they feel more confident. Waiting for the “right time.”

What I’ve learned after photographing hundreds of women is this:

Confidence rarely comes before the session.

Sometimes it begins the moment a woman finally sees herself the way everyone else has all along.

If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re “photogenic enough,” “young enough,” or “beautiful enough,” please know that nearly every woman who walks through my door asks herself those same questions. And, the answer? A resounding “Yes!” You just have to believe.

And so many leave with a positive self image, a renewed sense of energy and confidence. They dare to let their light shine brightly, as every woman should.

That’s the real gift of a boudoir experience.

Not the photographs themselves.

My home studio is in a 100 year-old farmhouse located in Davidsonville, Maryland. Our photo sessions take place in our loft studio or in our beautifully designed Secret Gardens that boasts a pond, a wrought-iron gate, flower gardens, an old-fashioned tree swing and a southern front porch complete with white pillars and white wicker furniture. I also have access to our neighbors’ strawberry farm, including a red barn and beautiful open fields.
