She Didn’t Just See Herself Differently. She Found Herself Again. | Annapolis Boudoir Photography
When a friend first suggested she have a boudoir session with me, she laughed.
She thought he was crazy.
But something about his encouragement stayed with her. Eventually, it gave her just enough courage to pick up the phone and call me.
At 50, she was walking through one of the most difficult seasons of her life. She was going through her second divorce after a relationship that had left her feeling defeated and questioning herself.
Menopause had changed her body—and, in many ways, her spirit.
She felt frustrated, exhausted, vulnerable, and emotionally worn down. As she began HRT, she knew she needed something that would help her reconnect with the woman she used to feel she was.
Then she called me.
And something shifted.
She told me that my calm, reassuring voice immediately made her feel safe. She knew she was in good hands.
Still, saying yes was one thing. Showing up was another.
What would she wear? Would it feel too revealing? Would she know how to pose? Could she really allow herself to be vulnerable in front of a camera?
On the day of her session, everything began to change.
With the help of her hair and makeup artist, she began to feel beautiful. She brought a simple black bra and panty set—and something else that meant even more to her: her Boston Marathon finisher jacket.
That jacket represented a younger version of herself.
A woman who had felt strong, determined, confident, and proud of who she was.
And that was the woman we brought back into the room.
The first few photographs felt intimidating. But with gentle direction and encouragement, she slowly began to relax.
Then she started laughing.
She started having fun.
And eventually, she stopped thinking about how she looked and simply allowed herself to be present.
When she received her album, she cried.
Because for the first time in a long time, she wasn’t seeing herself through the lens of age, divorce, insecurity, or everything she had been carrying.
She saw herself.
A woman who was still strong.
Still beautiful.
Still powerful.
Still whole.
Something softened inside her.
The insecurities began to melt away, and the heaviness she had been carrying began to lift.
She felt powerful again—like she could stand on her own, face whatever came next, and begin again.
And perhaps the most beautiful part of her story is what happened after the session.
Every morning, she sees her portrait in that Boston Marathon jacket.
And it reminds her of the woman she has always been.
She told me:
“I tell myself, ‘Suck it up, buttercup—you are great.’ And now, I believe it.”
but through the eyes of someone who sees your beauty, your strength, your femininity, and the woman you have become.

Recently, a woman in her early 60s came to me for a boudoir session. Like so many women, she had self doubts that weighed her down but she trusted the process anyway.
In fact, choosing photographs became the hard part. She selected thirty images for her album because she simply couldn’t imagine leaving any of them behind.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re “photogenic enough,” “young enough,” or “beautiful enough,” please know that nearly every woman who walks through my door asks herself those same questions. And, the answer? A resounding “Yes!” You just have to believe.
And so many leave with a positive self image, a renewed sense of energy and confidence. They dare to let their light shine brightly, as every woman should.

I am the premier Maryland boudoir photographer in Annapolis serving Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania. I specialize in black and white fine art portraits. My home studio is in a 100 year-old farmhouse located in Davidsonville, Maryland. Our photo sessions take place in our loft studio or in our beautifully designed Secret Gardens that boasts a pond, a wrought-iron gate, flower gardens, an old-fashioned tree swing and a southern front porch complete with white pillars and white wicker furniture. I also have access to our neighbors’ strawberry farm, including a red barn and beautiful open fields. Whether your session is indoors or out in nature, you can be sure that your boudoir session is tailor made with YOU in mind.

From Heartbreak to Triumph: Capturing the Journey of Empowerment
Her Vision
She’s light, she’s fire, she’s relentless, she’s one in a million and I am so grateful she came into my life. She had a vision of doing a pictorial essay of her finding love, losing love and all the tumult that comes with divorce and its aftermath. I knew this was going to be a totally different kind of boudoir session, but what I didn’t know was the depth and scope of her vision – a deeply personal project that she wanted to document from her divorce to the resurgence of her true self. The transformation from her happiness to her shock and sadness, anger and finally washing herself of the past and celebrating her journey, her birthday and looking forward to her new beginnings were all documented in a place of self acceptance and self love. She is a force of nature, a beautiful soul whose passion for life had me grasping for air as I recorded her story
The Beginning
We captured confident, sensual, empowering images that show her beauty at the onset of her journey. We chose the window scene with her dressed in white to depict the hope, the future and we ended with sensual images on the bed to show her sensual side as she was about to embark upon her new life, a life filled with love, hope and wonder.
Self Discovery
When outdoors in the warmth of the sun while wearing her wedding dress, she took a deep breath, sat with herself a bit, searched inward and allowed herself to feel…really feel her emotions in that moment. These images are purely organic as she navigates between loss of one’s soul, the agony and struggle of divorce and ultimately the victory of survival. She allowed herself to have full freedom of expression and the freedom of exploration as it should be.
Empowerment - Embracing the Future
As the shoot progressed, she allowed herself to let go fully, to express all the emotions that were bottled up inside of her – anger, anguish, frustration, sorrow – and as a result something magical happened. Confidence, strength, empowerment replaced all the negative emotions that had been living with her for so long and they took their rightful place. Her cleansing allowed her to move on with confidence, freedom and love of self. Renewal, new beginnings, a birthday celebration, a joyful acceptance that only comes by allowing her light shine and to shine brightly.

Dragonflies are the keepers of dreams, the energy within that sees all of our true potential and ability. Dragonflies inspire spirituality and creativity, they help us on the path of discovery and enlightenment. They remind us that anything is possible.
In the aftermath of the session, there was an exhilaration that was unmistakable. It’s a day I won’t forget and I don’t take lightly. It is my why. To see a woman transform before my eyes from entering a session cautiously to reaching a stage of confidence and empowerment is breathtakingly beautiful. I do not take this for granted. It is my wish that every woman experience this – a place where she feels safe and secure and a place where she is seen and heard.

“You are fat.”
“Why can’t you look like the person when we met.”
These are words that I heard constantly and it caused me to go in a downward spiral.
I was always self conscious due to my dwarfish and I never felt that I was pretty. He confirmed it. However, I had a choice after our separation and decided I was not that girl. I was more than that and I set out to find myself and to embark on a journey of self discovery through a boudoir session. I was excited, nervous and scared.
Why I Did a Boudoir Session With Linda
I saw Linda’s Facebook post and decided to explore the possibility of doing something way out of my comfort zone. I reached out to Linda and during our interactions, I saw in her empathy. “She gave me her undivided attention to what I was saying. She listened and understood and she guided me every step of the way. She eased my fears and through the session, something awakened in me that lay dormant for many years.

MY THOUGHTS
As I sit here writing this blog post, I cannot help but reflect upon meeting Tracy for the first time and seeing her determination. She knew…she just knew she was more than what someone said or defined her. And, this boudoir photography session was going to change how she forever sees herself. From the moment she walked in my studio, she was confident and I knew at that point, we were going to be just fine, Stacy and me. I learned a lot from her that day. Her love of self, her confidence and her assurance that she would not only survive but thrive was all encompassing for me to watch and to behold. She proudly displays a photo of her in her home to remind her that the outside voices do not matter. What truly matters is on the inside. She falls in love with her self every time she sees that photo as it is who she truly is…one remarkable young woman who not only shines her light, but shines in brightly. The natural light in her 100 year old farmhouse/studio is gorgeous. She has a studio in the attic, a huge front porch with gorgeous columns and several gardens outside that she uses for sets.
